There is not much discourse on zines these days, at least in my experience.

Here I discuss how zine culture exists in the form of social media activism on so-called 'infographic posts' commonly found on sites like Instagram.

Glorifying vintage or retro styles that existed in the 70s and 80s is no bad thing but I would rather celebrate how activism today is far more intersectional when it comes to accessibility.

this is great; the design and layout reminds me of The Spectacular Times I used to read in the’80s.

Great Zine, thanks !

I just want to discuss a little bit about “[an instagram post] costs nothing to make or distribute.”

Instagram is owned by facebook. Facebook is one of the most powerful companies in the world, basically because when you use a product like instagram you “pay” by watching ads or giving information about your likes and habits.

I’m totally in favor of using digital tools (like instagram) for resistance/activism but I can’t consider tools like instagram to be free.

yes very true!

Whilst using platforms like insta/FB definitely are great free tools for activists, they are definitely not free from capitalist systems for sure. Someone can and will profit from them.

Living in a capitalist society is definitely hard to navigate because most things inevitably come down to money and profit, even amongst good causes. Currently, we can only do our best to choose the least environmentally or socially devastating lifestyle I think

what software did you use for this?

I used the Electric Zine Maker by AlienMelon - check it out and make your own!
